As pleasure ramps up for Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs with rising phrase of mouth of how darkly grim and scary the Nicolas Cage-starring characteristic is, the director’s subsequent undertaking, Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, is beginning to achieve increasingly consideration.
The filmmaker’s adaptation of King’s brief horror story featured in Skeleton Crew is about to be his subsequent characteristic; it stars Theo James (The White Lotus), Tatiana Maslany (She–Hulk: Lawyer at Regulation), and Elijah Wooden (Maniac). In an interview with Bloody Disgusting’s Boo Crew, Perkins previewed what to anticipate, and it’s in fact the sudden. “It’s gonna really feel extra like Distress or Creepshow or Gremlins or [An American Werewolf in London],” he stated. “It couldn’t be much less like Longlegs. To me, should you’re gonna make a film a few toy monkey, you might be critical about it. However a lot of King is humorous and nostalgic feeling. So we tried to make a film that felt slightly bit extra like one thing from the late ’80s-’90s. It’s sorta like, if Robert Zemeckis had similar to slightly little bit of acid and made a Stephen King image a few monkey toy.”
The director teamed up with Neon (which can be releasing Longlegs) and James Wan’s Atomic Monster for his take, which we couldn’t be extra excited for because it appears like that boundary-pushing gateway horror vibe. “For me, ideally it’s the film that youngsters and their dad and mom wanna go see collectively,” Perkins continued. “Folks blow up, folks explode; it’s very excessive but it surely’s very humorous. It’s very father-son redemption, it’s very touching, it’s very nostalgic, it’s very Stephen King.”
The Monkey opens in theaters February 21, 2025. Longlegs arrives this July 12.
